dear friends who attempted the question……….. the answer is actually (2)he
i thought the answer given in the ans sheet was wrong… coz when i did the qn myself, i choose (3) too!!! so i thought i wld juz ask my frens what they thnk abt it….
in the end, i went to ASK THE ENGLISH TEACHER and i was sooo lucky… coz someone asked him a pronoun qn too!
according to him,
“Case” defines the job the pronoun is doing in the sentence. If the pronoun is the subject of the sentence (or of a subordinate clause in the sentence), it’s in the subjective case: I, he, she, we, they, who.
so… in this qn…. the pronoun is indeed the subject of our qn (our subject is ‘best of friends’ ), so we use the only subjective pronoun ‘he’ which is given in the qn…we cannot use ‘I’ coz the qn say “aren’t you?”
this is what you’ll get: “You and he are the best of friends, aren’t you?”
isn’t this tricky????
man.. it’s even more tricky to explain to the kids….
btw…. given this type of pronoun qn…. next time when u call someone.. it’s correct to say “HI! it’s I!” … coz… “HI! it’s ME!” is grammatically wrong!
grammar is crap….
